This program is designed for officers who seek the practical skill to survive, or provide the necessary immediate assistance to his buddy who has sustained an otherwise lethal injury. Without attempting to summarize an EMT course, we have condensed core medical understanding and skills, into a nuts and bolts training program for those who operate in high risk environments without immediately available medical support. There are no medical training pre-requisites for this program.
Participants will receive a minimalist medical kit that fits into a BDU cargo pocket. This kit contains only the items necessary to care for life threatening but survivable injuries that are recognized as the leading causes of preventable death in the combat environment. Equipped with these tools, each participant will be prepared to deal with:
- Profuse bleeding from extremity wounds
- An unconscious partner’s airway
- Sucking chest wounds
- Shock
This program is presented by CONTOMS trained and certified tactical medical support personnel, and has met the approval of our Medical Director, a board certified emergency room physician and Uniform Services University alumnus.
In the highly likely event that a law enforcement officer should find him/herself under lethal attack, he/she should be confident enough to competently deal with those injuries, which are known to be the causes of preventable death in combat situations. “Buddy Survival” is not necessarily a viable option to tactical medical support, but it could be the next best thing to having that immediately available tactical medic by your side if you or your partner have sustained trauma in a violent attack.
